When Is the Best Time to Visit Egypt?

Egypt is a year-round destination, but the experience varies dramatically depending on when you go. The weather, crowd levels, and prices all shift throughout the year, so choosing the right time can make a huge difference to your trip.

October to April: Peak Season

This is the most popular time to visit, and for good reason. Daytime temperatures in Cairo range from 20°C to 28°C, making it comfortable for sightseeing. In Luxor and Aswan, temperatures are slightly warmer but still pleasant.

Pros: Comfortable weather, all sites open, Nile cruises running at full capacity.

Cons: Higher prices, larger crowds at popular sites, need to book well in advance.

November to February: Winter

Winter is the peak of peak season. Cairo can be surprisingly cool, with occasional rain. Luxor and Aswan are warm and sunny. This is the best time for desert camping in the Western Desert and the White Desert.

March to April: Spring

Spring brings warm temperatures and the Khamsin wind season, which can cause sandstorms in Upper Egypt. However, the crowds begin to thin and prices start dropping. It's still a good time to visit if you're flexible.

May to September: Summer

Summer is Egypt's low season. Cairo is hot (35°C to 40°C), and Luxor and Aswan can exceed 45°C. However, coastal cities like Alexandria, Hurghada, and Sharm el-Sheikh are pleasant due to sea breezes.

Pros: Fewer tourists, significantly lower prices, empty temples and tombs.

Cons: Extreme heat inland, some outdoor activities limited during midday.
